Each of the athletes participating in the National Kidney Foundation’s US Transplant Games has already run and won the most important race of all…the race of life…and now seek your help in raising awareness about the successful results of organ transplantation by asking for your contribution toward their participation as Team Illinois when they compete in the US Transplant Games 2006. The US Transplant Games are more than an athletic competition. They are the coming together of thousands of individuals who all share one thing in common – their lives have been touched by organ and tissue donation. The Transplant Games showcase the success of transplantation while calling attention to the continuing, critical need for organ and tissue donors. The Games also serve as a tribute to the thousands of living donors and donor families who make the decision to give the precious gift of life each year. Team Illinois, an athletic division of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois (a 503c organization), is in the midst of its planning, training, and fundraising. Members of Team Illinois include Illinois-based recipients, living donors and donor families from over 10 different Midwest transplant centers. Our team funding comes strictly from generous individuals and companies like yours. Your donation will serve to reduce the costs each athlete (adults and children/families) will have to pay in order to participate (uniforms, registration, travel, housing expenses estimating $1200 per recipient). And while the Games serve to celebrate the wonderful gift of life many of these recipients now enjoy, many times these costs are prohibitive to families who already struggle with excessive medical bills and personal expense as they not only waited for their life-saving transplant, but must continue the medical visits and pharmaceutical expenses they still must sustain.
